London Calling
London, England. It strikes up the image of Big Ben, Parliment, and of course the Royal Family. But it is also home to some of the best cuisine I have had. While British palates have leaned towards the bland for past generations, it is striding with tremendous leaps and bounds to becoming a new destination for food lovers around the globe. Most predominant is the increase in Indian restauarants. With such dishes as the traditional Naan and Chicken Tikka Masala, and Padpi Channa Chat (which is composed of tamarind chutney, chickpeas, and sweetened yogurt), Indian cuisine is quickly becoming a gourmet tourist favorite. While some of these recipes are quite pricey, they are well worth it for the experience your senses encounter. One of the best restauarants I have been to is one called Amaya. It had an amazing, delectable Lamb Osso Busco, as well as several other dishes shared by my family. It is best to order several dishes and share, as that way everyone is allowed to taste and experience the food. The service was wonderful as well, with the restauarant manager actually going down to the cellar to retrieve a small bottle of screwpine for me. I had no idea what it was, or for what is was used. It turns out screwpine is a small root that is used for its essence in Indian cuisine.
The experience is one I will always remember, and one that will bring me back to London, for I have yet to try their Japanese and French gourmet dishes as well.
