Savoury Potato Kugel

Now some of you are surely already familiar with this term but I had no idea what “kugel” was other than “something with noodles”. As it turns out, kugel is a traditional Jewish dessert or side-dish – like a sweet quiche or a strata – typically made with potatoes or noodles as well as eggs, milk and cottage cheese or, sometimes, sour cream.

.

The kugel I made is a savoury dish – less popular that its sweeter cousin, but still delicious. Here’s my recipe.

Apple Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies (for love of my sister Mary) I have a sister, my favorite sister, and her name is Mary. She’s adorable, funny, beautiful, and one of the pickiest eaters I have ever known. Mary likes her food as plain as can be, yet extremely flavorful. Seriously, when we go out   Read More…

A Little Esoterica With Your Champagne

Scott Nordhues 2 Comments Tags: Champagne, drinking, holidays

I’ve probably drunk as much bad champagne as anyone to mark the New Year, weddings, rotating the tires on the car. Celebrations and champagne are like politicians and corruption – you just can’t imagine one without the other. Yet many of us probably have never had a drop of real champagne. I mean the authentic   Read More…

No one loves a good party more than me and I love some great party dishes. The thing to remember with parties is the fact that food has to be: Fairly Clean (fingerfoods are a good thing!) Easy to serve (no heavy sauces) Easy to eat (Leave the forks at home!) Little to no cleanup   Read More…

My Favorite Things-Chicken Breasts

Kim Ruzich 1 Comment

As the holidays descend upon us, we are faced with a surplus of Christmas goose, ham and turkey, depending on your individual family tradition. While delightful for the day, the leftovers can be tiresome. Chicken breasts are a great way to break from the leftovers and have a healthy meal after all the excess that   Read More…

We Are What We Cook

Scott Nordhues 1 Comment Tags: Cooking, eating well, fruit, Nutrition, vegetables

Am I a grinch for not even waiting until Christmas Day 2010 is history to mention the “c” word – calories? It’s not too early to throw out a reminder that what goes up – namely, your weight – should come down once the holidays are over. If you’re like me, you give yourself a   Read More…
