Cameron’s 10 days of Christmas, Day 3
On the 3rd day of Christmas my true gourmet gave to me…a Christmas party dinner!
I will admit this idea should have occurred to me a bit sooner as most holiday parties have passed, but people with large families to feed or get togethers over the weekend will find my party guide very helpful. I have great side dishes and some layout and decor ideas that will make your party pop.
Decor Tips
Place the food in a central location that is easy to get around and is in an easy traffic flow area. Â Also, don’t be afraid to break away from popular red and green motifs. Use bright blues, rich purples, or other sateen and rich colors to make a room or a presentation really pop. Get creative.
The Food
Most people know that standard holiday platters but I wanted to do some reminders of some platters that work very well for parties or for snacking throughout the Christmas Day.
Meat and Cheese
Summer sausage, havarti cheese, swiss cheese, white cheddar cheese, gouda cheese, and salami with soft water crackers
Veggie Platter (no boring celery and dip here)
Large lettuce leaves, cranberries, fruit dip (takes away the bitter), small broccoli tips, asparagus (grill a bit for a hot addition) and julienned carrots.
Cheese Bread
Ingredients
1 round loaf of sourdough bread, unsliced
1/2 pound of grated jack cheese (1, 8 ounce package)
1/2 yellow onion, cut into thin slivers
1/2 cup chopped parsley
4 tablespoons butter, melted
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cut bread into diagonal slices, about 1 inch apart, stopping before you cut through the bottom of the loaf.
Cut bread in the opposite direction in the same manner, creating diagonal shaped cubes, taking care not to cut through to the bottom.
Carefully stuff the space in between each cube with cheese, onions and parsley, then drizzle with melted butter.
Wrap in foil and place in the oven for 20 minutes. Unwrap the top of the loaf and bake for 15 minutes more, to crisp up the crust. Serve immediately.
